General information about Spring Starflower (Ipheion):
Spring Starflower (Ipheion) is a genus of spring flowering bulbs with small star shaped flowers and grass-like foliage. They are strong little plants which will spread over the years. Spring Starflower likes a sheltered spot in the sun or half shade in well-draining soil. It is always safer to give Spring Starflower a covering of leaves if a hard frost is expected. Spring Starflower appreciates some compost in spring. Use Spring Starflower in combination with Creeping Phlox (Phlox), Horned Violet (Viola cornuta), Cushion Bolax (Azorella) and Saw-leaved Speedwell (Veronica austriaca).
