Jack-in-the-Pulpit

Jack-in-the-Pulpit  (Arisaema)

Jack-in-the-Pulpit (Arisaema) is a member of the Araceae family. Unfortunately, they are not all fully hardy with us. Make sure they are mulched well in winter and also ensure good drainage. It helps if you fill the bottom few inches of your plant-hole with gravel or broken plant pots. Jack-in-the-Pulpit prefers a position in the shade or half shade in a humus rich, slightly acidic soil. It is a woodland plant which often loses its foliage already in summer. It can take a few years for Jack-in-the-Pulpit to fully establish itself.
