Kaffir Lily

Kaffir Lily  (Schizostylis)

Kaffir Lily (Schizostylis) originates from South Africa. It is a plant with grass like leaves and flowers which look like those of Gladiolus. Kaffir Lily will take a frost, especially once established. It will be good to add some protection in the first couple of years or in a severe winter. Kaffir Lily likes a fertile soil and a spot in the sun. During the growing season, the soil must be moist enough. Be aware of wet feet in the winter. Good neighbour plants for Kaffir Lily are Love Grass (Eragrostis), Marsh Spurge (Euphorbia palustris), Globeflower (Trollius) and Burnet (Sanguisorba). Kaffir Lily produces good cut flowers.
