General information about Japanese Aster (Kalimeris):Japanese Aster (Kalimeris) is closely related to the 'regular' Aster. They are strong perennials with a bushy shape that will grow in just about any soil. Even dry soil is good. Japanese Aster prefers a spot in the sun or half shade. Where Japanese Aster differs from Aster is that Japanese Aster does not suffer from mildew. Japanese Aster is useful in many locations, from the border to the natural garden. The lower growing varieties are also good in pots or troughs. Lots of plants will combine well with Japanese Aster, such as Anemone, Woodland Sage (Salvia nemorosa), Day Lily (Hemerocallis), Fountain Grass (Pennisetum), Goldenrod (Solidago) and German Iris (Iris germanica). The flowers of Japanese Aster attract lots of insects and if you dead head regularly, Japanese Aster will flower right into October.Japanese Aster - Kalimeris incisa 'Variaster'
