Within the genus Knautia the species 'macedonica' is often used as a border plant. The colour of the flower varies from deep crimson to pink. Knautia likes a spot in the sun in well-draining soil. Butterflies and bees also like Knautia which is rich in nectar. Good neighbour plants for Knautia are Erigeron, Gypsophila paniculata and not too tall Pennisetum.
