Knöterich  (Persicaria)

Knöterich ist eine Gattung wertvoller, vollkommen winterharter Pflanzen, von denen die meisten im Spätsommer blühen. Der Knöterich wächst auf jedem guten Boden in der Sonne oder im Halbschatten. Vor allem die Arten Kerzenknöterich (Persicaria amplexicaulis) (hoch) und Schneckenknöterich (Persicaria affinis) (niedrig) unterdrücken Unkraut sehr effektiv. Sobald sie gut gewurzelt haben, brauchen diese Knöterich-Arten nur einen 'Frühjahrsputz' und Kompost. Die Arten Knöterich microcephala und Knöterich virginiana werden vor allem wegen ihrer prächtigen Blätter gehalten, die sich gut im Beet und beim Blumenbinden verwenden lassen. Der Knöterich hat viele Verwendungsmöglichkeiten und darf in keinem Garten fehlen. Auch Insekten lassen sich gerne vom Knöterich anlocken.
