Lamium

Lamium - Dead Nettle

The genus Lamium is closely related to the genus Lamiastrum. The latter is especially suited as ground cover because of its long runners. The plants of the genus Lamium stay more compact and form a dense mat. This makes them very suited in the front of a (half) shadow border. A bit more sun is ok as long as the soil is moist. The foliage of Lamium also has a nice colouring, shades of silver and yellow. The 'lip flowers' are also nice and colours vary between purple, pink or white. Lamium combines well with Asplenium scolopendrium, Dicentra, Epimedium and Hosta.
