Liatris

Liatris - Blazing Star

Liatris forms fat erect flowering spikes which flower from top to bottom. This is in contrast to nearly all other plants which produce flower spikes. Liatris is not often enough seen in borders which is a shame. They give a lovely vertical effect, especially when planted not too far apart and in groups of at least 5 plants. Liatris is also a good cut flower and the flowers attract a lot of butterflies and insects. They are long living plants which will grow in almost any soil as long as they get some sunshine. Liatris looks good when planted next to plants with broad leaves or dish shaped flowers such as Echinacea, Geranium, Malva or Astrantia.
