Ligularia

Ligularia - Leopard Plant

Ligularia is a large genus of mostly large plants with yellow flowers. Just about all Ligularia's like a spot in the half shade in a normal soil which is moist. More sun is ok as long as plenty moisture is available, for instance alongside a pond. If the soil dries out, the foliage will droop straight away. Especially nice are the varieties of Ligularia with warm yellow flowers and brown leaves. Ligularia's are large plants which appreciate some added compost every spring. It can take a few years before they are fully grown. Slugs are also fond of Ligularia, so spread eco-friendly slug pellets early in spring. Combining Ligularia with Hemerocallis, Eupatorium, Aruncus or Astilbe looks good.
