General information about Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum):
Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum) is a very hardy perennial for in a natural setting or in the border. All species like a normal to moist soil in the sun or half shade. Purple Loosestrife can self-seed and if you do not wish this, cut away the flowering stems when finished. This is also recommended if you want the cultivars to stay true. Otherwise the colours of the seedings will vary from that of the mother plant. Good neighbour plants for Purple Loosestrife are Yellow Flag (Iris pseudacorus), Marsh Marigold (Caltha), Pendulous Sedge (Carex pendula) and Leopard Plant (Ligularia).
