Mayapple

Mayapple  (Podophyllum)

Mayapple (Podophyllum) is a slow growing, strong perennial for in the (half)shade in preferably moist soil. Some varieties of Mayapple have mottled, speckled or bubbly leaves. After flowering, apple shaped small fruits grow under the leaves. Good neighbour plants for Mayapple are Wild Ginger (Asarum), Tongue Fern (Asplenium scolopendrium), Lily of the Valley (Convallaria), Greater Woodrush (Luzula sylvatica) and Drumstick Primrose (Primula denticulata).
