Milchstern

Milchstern  (Ornithogalum)

General information about Star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum):
Star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum) is a genus of bulbous perennials usually with star-shaped flowers. Some species are mainly grown for use in floristry. These are usually not hardy. Plant these species in a pot and winter them frost free. Luckily for us there are also fully hardy species. In the right position Star-of-Bethlehem will spread nicely through young bulbs or seed. Star-of-Bethlehem is good to use under shrubs and between not too tall other plants. A few species have foliage that will die back after flowering. Good neighbour plants for Star-of-Bethlehem are Bugle (Ajuga), Water Avens (Geum rivale) and Bluebell (Hyacinthoides).
