Muhlenbergia

Muhlenbergia - Hairawn Muhly

Muhlenbergia is a large genus of grasses from tropical and temperate climate zones. They have fine foliage and dense pinnacles of sometimes pink to reddish flowers. Muhlenbergia likes a spot in the full sun in dry to normal soil. Muhlenbergia is not fully hardy with us but the main reason for loosing plants over the winter is that they are too wet. Ensure good drainage or plant on a slope. It is preferable to plant Muhlenbergia in spring and definitely not later than the end of August. For the best effect, we would recommend planting in groups of at least 5 plants. Suitable neighbour plants for Muhlenbergia are Monarda and pink flowering Echinacea.
