Ookow  (Dichelostemma)

Ookow (Dichelostemma) is a small genus of summer flowering bulbs, related to Asparagus. Ookow is not fully hardy, as the want it very dry during the winter. Plant them in the full sun in a well-draining soil. Cover them with leaves in winter. It is safer to plant Ookow in a large pot which can be over-wintered in a frost-free location. The plant produces a good cut flower. Ookow combines well with ornamental grasses, such as Hairgrass (Deschampsia).
