Pearlwort

Pearlwort  (Sagina)

Pearlwort (Sagina) is one of the lowest growing ground covers for in the garden. It is very nice to use Pearlwort on patio's and paths with wide gaps between the slabs where it will nicely soften the edges. Also Pearlwort is nice in a Japanese garden where it can be used as a substitute to moss. Pearlwort wants a well-draining soil in the sun or half shade. If in the full sun, make sure the soil is moist enough. In time, Pearlwort will form dense mats. If these become too high, just press them down. For a daring combination you could always plant a clump of Black Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Niger') between Pearlwort.
