General information about Knotweed (Persicaria):
Knotweed (Persicaria) is a genus of very useful, most hardy perennials which mainly flower late in summer. Knotweed will grow in any good soil in the sun or half shade. Especially the species Mountain Fleece (Persicaria amplexicaulis) and Himalayan Knotweed (Persicaria affinis) are good weed suppressors. Once established, these species of Knotweed only need a tidy up in spring and some fresh compost annually. The species Fleeceflower (Persicaria microcephala) and Jumpseed (Persicaria virginiana) are mainly used because of their beautiful foliage in the border or for flower arranging. Knotweed has many uses and should be present in every garden. Insects are also charmed by Knotweed.
