Phlomis

Phlomis - Lampwick Plant

Phlomis is a genus of usually hardy perennials which enjoy full sun. The soil should not be too fertile, or you will get loads of foliage and less flowers. The flowers of Phlomis sit in rings around the stem, which looks nice going into the winter. Most species of Phlomis are evergreen and have fury leaves. If the foliage gets ugly, say after a prolonged drought, cut the plant back to just above soil level. Good partners for Phlomis are low ornamental grasses, Geranium and Aster.
