Polygonatum

Polygonatum - Solomon's Seal

Polygonatum is a genus of slow growing woodland perennials. Polygonatum grows with long stems from the ground, mostly slightly hanging over. At the bottom of the leaf nodes Polygonatum forms hanging flowers which develop into small berries. Most varieties like a spot in the half shade, in humus rich soil. More sun is tolerated as long as the soil is moist enough. The foliage of Polygonatum often colours lovely yellow in autumn. For a nice combination, plant Polygonatum together with ferns, Hosta, Hakonechloa or Geranium phaeum.
