General information about Rosinweed (Silphium):Rosinweed (Silphium) is a genus of very easy perennials which flower for a long time. It is an impressive plant to be planted in the back of the border. Even in winter, Rosinweed adds structure as the stems stay upright. Rosinweed likes a spot in the full sun, but will also do with half shade. The soil should be normal to moist and fertile. A gift of fresh compost in spring is always appreciated. Strong neighbours for Rosinweed are Hemp Agrimony (Eupatorium), Meadow Rue (Thalictrum) and Maiden Grass (Miscanthus). Rosinweed produces a good cut flower and is loved by many insects. Watch out in spring for slugs and snails eating the fresh new shoots.Cup Plant - Silphium perfoliatum 'Carnica'
