General information about Coneflower (Rudbeckia) (Rudbeckia):
Coneflower (Rudbeckia) is an upright plant with daisy like flowers with a large heart. Every garden should have some, they attract plenty butterflies and provide a good cut flower. After they have finished flowering, the spent stems are still decorative for a long time. Coneflower like a place in the sun, in dry to normal, fertile soil. Half shade is ok but will result in less flowers. Within the genus Coneflower, the species 'hirta' and 'triloba' are not long living. By annually splitting the plant you can prolong their existence. When planting Coneflower, give them some space around them as they do not like competition from neighbouring plants when establishing. Coneflower is a good plant for in the border but also for in the prairie garden. Some good neighbour plants for Coneflower are Phlox (Phlox), Globe Thistle (Echinops), Woodland Sage (Salvia nemorosa), Giant Hyssop (Agastache), Blazing Star (Liatris), Beebalm (Monarda) and ornamental grasses.
