Rungia

Rungia - Mushroom Plant

Rungia has leaves which taste like mushrooms, which explains its common name. The leaves can be used in salads and soups, both raw or (very short) boiled. To harvest Rungia, you can cut its stems back to 20 or 30 cm above ground level. Some fertilizer will help the plant form new shoots again. Rungia likes a spot in half shade and fertile soil. Better is to plant Rungia in a pot with good compost because the plant is not hardy. In the winter place the pot in a light place a water sparingly. In spring freshen up the compost and place outside again in frost free weather.
