General information about Soapwort (Saponaria):Soapwort (Saponaria) is a genus of half-high to low, cushion forming perennials. The roots and foliage of Soapwort were both used in the past to wash oneself with. They are easy plants which prefer a sunny spot in normal to dry soil. The low species are well suited to the rockery. The species Common Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) is best in a natural planting because they can grow quite wild. Good neighbours for Soapwort are low growing Bellflower (Campanula), Spiked Speedwell (Veronica spicata), Shrubby Gromwell (Lithodora) and Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca).Soapwort - Saponaria 'Bressingham'
