General information about Soapwort (Saponaria):Soapwort (Saponaria) is a genus of half-high to low, cushion forming perennials. The roots and foliage of Soapwort were both used in the past to wash oneself with. They are easy plants which prefer a sunny spot in normal to dry soil. The low species are well suited to the rockery. The species Common Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) is best in a natural planting because they can grow quite wild. Good neighbours for Soapwort are low growing Bellflower (Campanula), Spiked Speedwell (Veronica spicata), Shrubby Gromwell (Lithodora) and Blue Fescue (Festuca glauca).Giant Flowered Soapwort - Saponaria lempergii 'Max Frei'
