Scabious (Knautia)

Scabious (Knautia) looks very much like Scabious and they are often mixed up, which is no surprise as they have the same type of flower. Within the genus Scabious the species 'macedonica' is often used as a border plant. The colour of the flower varies from deep crimson to pink. Scabious likes a spot in the sun in well-draining soil. Butterflies and bees also like Scabious which is rich in nectar. Good neighbour plants for Scabious are Fleabane (Erigeron), Baby's Breath (Gypsophila paniculata) and not too tall Fountain Grass (Pennisetum).
