Schlangenbart

Schlangenbart  (Ophiopogon)

General information about Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon):
Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon) has grass like ever green leaves. The flowers are white with purple and sit at the end of erect racemes. After flowering, the berries of some species are beautiful blue. Mondo Grass likes a spot in (half)shade in humus rich slightly acidic soil. Once established it is quite drought tolerant. Because Mondo Grass is evergreen its foliage can sustain some frost damage. Cut this ugly foliage away in spring. Especially the cultivar Black Mondo Gras 'Niger' with its almost black foliage is a real eye-catcher. This cultivar of Mondo Grass sits well in a modern garden, planted in white gravel or combined with not too large Hosta's (Hosta) with yellow or white in their leaves.
