Schwingel

Schwingel  (Festuca)

Schwingel ist ein büschelformendes Gras und für trockenen, sandigen Boden geeignet, der auch sauer und nährstoffarm sein darf. Wächst der Schwingel auf einem zu feuchten oder nährstoffreichen Boden, ist er nur kurzlebig. An einem passenden Standort überlebt er jahrelang, die Pflege beschränkt sich dabei auf ein Herrichten im Frühling. Bei vielen Schwingel-Arten ist die Blüte nicht besonders auffällig, jedoch gibt es einige Arten, die sehr schön blühen. Der Schwingel wird vor allem wegen seiner Blätter gehalten; blau bis grün, bei einigen Arten mit etwas Rot.
Besonders schön macht sich der Schwingel in einem modernen Garten, zum Beispiel im Kombination mit weißem Kies und orangerotem Cortenstahl. In Pflanzkübeln gedeiht der Schwingel ebenfalls sehr gut. Eine Wasserzugabe ist dann kaum nötig. Durch seine ruhige Farbe lässt sich der Schwingel ideal mit anderen Pflanzen kombinieren, z. B. mit Sonnenröschen (Helianthemum), Nelke (Dianthus), Blut-Storchschnabel (Geranium sanguineum), Scheinsteinsame (Lithodora) und Fettblatt (Sedum).
