Spignel  (Meum)

Spignel (Meum) is a genus of aromatic hardy perennials. They have finely structured, fresh green foliage and umbels of white flowers. Spignel grows in in wild throughout Europe, mainly in mountainous areas. In Scotland the plant is grown for its edible roots, comparable to Parsnip. The foliage of Spignel can be used in herb butter, salads and soups. In the past Spignel was also used in medicine. Spignel is a plant for in the sun or half shade in any soil, preferably slightly alkaline.
