Spikemoss

Spikemoss  (Selaginella)

Spikemoss (Selaginella) belongs to a group of moss-like spore plants and therefore sometimes is classed as belonging to the fern group. There are different types of Spikemoss, from small bushy annuals and also climbing perennials. Most are not hardy, but the species 'helvetica' is properly hardy with us. They have unusual shades of green, occasionally with a metal like sheen. Spikemoss is sometimes used alongside water features or as ground cover between ferns and Hosta (Hosta). They are also used as green decoration and house plants. Spikemoss likes a spot in the half shade and in moist soil.
