Can I plant perennials in the garden in summer?

Customers regularly ask us whether it is possible to plant perennials in the garden in summer.
We are happy to provide you with more information here.

Plants obtain food and water from the soil via their hair roots. When they are transplanted, these hair roots can quickly become damaged. This is almost impossible to prevent. That is why a plant always needs some time to grow again after planting.

Plants that are transplanted outdoors in summer must then do their best to re-root, as many hair roots are lost during transplanting. This is much less important for perennials grown in pots, as the root ball remains intact when transplanting.
All our perennials are grown in pots! This means that you can buy and plant plants in summer without any problems.

However, it is advisable to pay attention to a few things, especially in dry and warm weather.

√  If possible, do not plant the plants in full sun at midday. It is better to do this when it is cloudy or in the evening.
√  Make sure that the root ball can soak in a bucket of water before planting.
√  Make the planting hole at least twice the size of the root ball.
√  Mix some potting compost or compost into the excavated garden soil.
√  Place the plant in the planting hole, fill it with the excavated soil and press it down firmly.
√  Make sure that the soil around the plant is not higher than the rest. It is better if the soil is spread out in a bowl shape to prevent the water from running off when watering.
√  Be generous when watering and do so for a longer period of time; certainly during a period of warm and dry weather.

If you follow these guidelines when planting your perennials in the garden, it is almost impossible to go wrong. If you have any doubts or questions, you can always contact us. We will be happy to advise you!
