Switchgrass (Panicum)

Switchgrass (Panicum) is a genus of clump forming, upright grasses with great ornamental value. The foliage of Switchgrass colours to warm autumnal shades already in late summer with some varieties. There are also some varieties with grey-blue leaves. The flowering pinnacles are very suited to flower arranging. Switchgrass is a reliable plant that does well in the sun in fertile, not too wet soil. Switchgrass looks good when planted as a specimen in the border or modern garden, but also when planted in groups in a natural garden. Nice neighbour plants for Switchgrass are Culver's Root (Veronicastrum), Aster (Aster) and Coneflower (Rudbeckia).
