Tetrapanax - Rice-paper Plant

Tetrapanax is mainly grown for its beautiful leaves and its exotic appearance. They can grow into a small shrub. The soil needs to be normal to moist, but not wet. Above ground, Tetrapanax is not fully hardy but will mostly shoot from the bottom again if it does get frosted off. Avoid disturbing the roots because if you do the plant will form new shoots at these points and can spread vigorously. The plant likes some fertilizer in spring. Tetrapanax does not flower until it is mature and this can take several years. Tetrapanax also looks good in a large pot which can then be brought inside over winter.
