Thistle (Cirsium) is a plant with beautiful flowers. Most thistles self-seed vigorously and therefore are not very suitable for gardens. The cultivated varieties of Thistle are sterile and good for in the garden. They require a rich, normal to slight moist soil in full sun. Good partner plants for Thistle are Japanese Iris (Iris ensata) and Globeflower (Trollius).
