Triosteum - Horse Gentain

Triosteum is a quite unknown genus of woodland plants. The flowers of Triosteum are quite insignificant, especially when compared to the following berries. These berries used to be dried and roasted and used as a substitute for coffee. Triosteum is a strong plant which enjoys a spot in the half shade to shade. Try planting Triosteum amongst the trees, accompanied by other woodland plants such as Convallaria, Aconitum, Dicentra and Tricyrtis. Ferns also look good next to Triosteum.
