Voodoo Lily

Voodoo Lily  (Sauromatum)

Voodoo Lily (Sauromatum) belongs to a small genus of tuber forming perennials for in the (half) shade. Voodoo Lily will withstand some frost as long as they are very dry. This is virtually impossible in our gardens. You could try it by making a quite large plant hole and filling the bottom of it with good layer of gravel and sit the roots directly on top of this. Otherwise, plant Voodoo Lily in a pot which can be kept somewhere dry and cool over the winter. Voodoo Lily can also be used as a 'dry' flowering plant. Lay the tuber in the window sill early in spring and after a few weeks it will flower. After flowering, plant Voodoo Lily in a pot and take outside after the last frost.
