Winter Aconite

Winter Aconite  (Eranthis)

Winter Aconite (Eranthis) is planted because of its very early flowering in spring. Sometimes the flowers will pop up in the snow. The foliage of Winter Aconite appears after the flowers. Early summer the plants will disappear and the plants will rest underground until next spring. Dry bulbs are sometimes difficult to get to grow in the garden. This is why we offer Winter Aconite in a pot, already rooted. It can take a few years before you end up with nice clumps but it is well worth the wait. Winter Aconite likes loose, humus rich soil, for instance with Snowdrop (Galanthus) and Squill (Scilla). The Winter Aconite we sell is obviously not collected from the wild but grown on a nursery.
