Woodland Poppy

Woodland Poppy  (Pteridophyllum)

Woodland Poppy (Pteridophyllum) is a very small plant genus, family of the Papaver. The genus has only 1 species; Pteridophyllum racemosum, which occurs in the wild in Japan. The stems with pendulous white flowers stand out nicely above the fern-like leaves. Woodland Poppy likes a cool spot in (partial) shade. The soil may be normal to slightly moist. Woodland Poppy does not thrive well on calcareous soil. Woodland Poppy is fairly hardy, but covering the plants with a layer of fallen leaves in the autumn does no harm.
