Lemongrass  (Cymbopogon)

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon) is a genus of grasses with little ornamental value, but mainly kept because of its usefulness. The leaves have a strong scent of lemon and are used to deter insects around the house but also in biological horticulture. The leaves of Lemongrass form the base for Citronella. Also, in the kitchen Lemongrass is useful. The leaves taste of lemon and are used fresh or dried in meat and fish dishes. A fresh thee can also be brewed from its leaves. Lemongrass is a useful addition to the herb garden, but not fully hardy. Best over winter in a pot in a frost-free location.
