Rush  (Juncus)

Rush (Juncus) grows best in slightly acidic, wet soil. They often have a hollow stem. Most species of Rush are winter green. It is a plant for along a stream or pond where it will also help purifying and originate the water. Sometimes Rush is best to plant with a root barrier to stop them becoming invasive. The much slower growing cultivar 'Spiralis' has lovely twisted foliage and is commonly known as Corkscrew Rush. Rush combines nice with variegated Sweet Flag (Acorus) and Yellow Flag (Iris pseudacorus).
