Snakeflower  (Bulbine)

Snakeflower (Bulbine) is a genus of plants from mainly southern Africa. Snakeflower has fleshy leaves, the juice of which can be used against bruises, burns, insect bites, etc. Snakeflower resembles Kniphofia, but is smaller and slimmer. Snakeflower requires a spot in full sun and soil with good drainage. The winter hardiness of Snakeflower is unfortunately not good. It is best to keep the plants in pots that are kept frost-free in winter. In winter, keep the plants on the dry side. Remove the spent flowering stems for a longer flowering period. If the leaves become unsightly, remove them from the plant. Snakeflower is a colourful bloomer that attracts many insects.
